Saline soil

A soil condition in which soluble salts are present in the soil in sufficient quantities to affect the ability of plants to absorb water from the soil. Measured in deciSiemens per meter (dS/M) or millimhos per centimeter (mmhos/cm) the following quantifies the ranges of salinity: <2 not saline; 2-4 very slightly saline; 4-8 slightly saline; 8-16 moderately saline; and >16 strongly saline.
