Land Trusts


Land Trusts purchase property or conservation easements to protect that land from development. The trust may hold and manage the property or it may choose to transfer it to another organization such as The Nature Conservancy or Ducks Unlimited to own and manage. Land trusts may also choose to transfer ownership and management rights to a governmental unit like the National Fish and Wildlife Service, state Department of Natural Resources, or county park system.

The sporting group Ducks Unlimited has a national land trust called Wetlands America Trust that protects migratory bird habitat.
